Having a successful business meeting can be challenging, especially if you don’t know the business language that you should use. There are different expressions that you can use to be able to have a meeting successfully.

The different expressions to improve English for Business Communication

Opening the meeting  

There are specific expressions that you can use when you are starting the meeting. It is always important for you to greet the participants. A ‘good morning” or ” good afternoon would be perfect.

Welcoming the participants

When you are welcoming the participants you can use ‘please join me in welcoming’ or ‘it is a pleasure to welcome you” and then the name of the participant’

Giving apologies

Once the meeting has started, you need to apologise  for the people who failed to show up. You can use ‘I have received apologies for the absence of the participant(s)“. Then  it is important for you to mention why they won’t be able to handle the project.

Starting the principal objectives of a meeting

You can mention the objectives by introducing the aims. There are different expressions like ‘our aim is to’ or ‘by the end of the meeting we hope to achieve…

Reading the agenda of the last meeting

First and foremost, let’s go over the report from the last meeting which was held on these dates’ this is one of the best expressions that you can use.

Introducing the Agenda

When you are introducing the agenda, you need to use ‘do all of you have the copy of the agenda?’  Make sure to prioritize the list in order of the things that you are going to undertake.

The recent development and moving forward

In every meeting their will be developments that you need to address. The best way for you to introduce the topic is ‘Have you all received a copy of the report on the current business trends?

On moving forward; ‘So, if there is nothing to discuss on the issue, we can move forward to the next agenda

(Name of the participant) has agreed to take the notes and prepare a report.

Finishing up the meeting

You need to summarize the details of the meeting before you close up. You can use the phrase “to sum up”.
